Methodology

Anyone can publish a cost range. The question worth answering is where it came from, and this page is the standard every other page on this site is held to.

Rules come from the agency, quoted

Every statement about what Chicago requires is read at chicago.gov and quoted, with the date we read it printed on the page. We do not restate a rule from a contractor's website, a competitor, or a search-engine summary. Rules change; the date tells you how fresh ours is.

Prices are labelled for exactly what they are

There is no official schedule for what a window job costs, so every price anywhere is somebody's observation of a market. We split them into two kinds and label which is which:

• A published fee, quoted from the agency that charges it, with the date read.
• A market observation, with the guide it came from named and its publication date attached. Never presented as official, never presented as a Chicago figure when it is a national one.

What we refuse to publish

• A figure we cannot attribute. If we cannot name a source we read, we publish no number and say why.
• A ranking. We cannot document who is best, so we do not say.
• A rule we have not read in full. Where something is reported but unread, we say it is unconfirmed rather than repeat it.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, tell us at compassleadgroup@gmail.com and we will fix it and note the change on the page. A correction is a claim too, and it gets the same sourcing as the original.
